    what is wrong in this sentence

    A vast quantity of radioactive material is made when does a hydrogen atom explode.

    which of the underlined parts is wrong ?? there is one

    i answer: does a hydrogen atom explode. should be does a hydrogen atom explodes

    BUT
    does not "A vast quantity of " needs plural, so is should be are ???

    "Radioactive" is an adjective. You don't have vast quantities of those.
    'A vast quantity of radioactive materials' is right.
    "A vast quantity of radioactive materials is ..." because the head noun is quantity.
