    For 2008

    Hello everyone

I'd like to ask about the meaning of "for 2008" in the following comtext:

This direct public financing – which represents roughly €xx million a year – is divided in half:
The first half is based on the performance of the political parties in the general elections and represents €xx million of the total. Candidates must have obtained at least 1% of votes cast in at least 50 constituencies in mainland France or at least 1% of votes cast in the constituencies of Overseas Territories. The distribution of this first half is proportional to the number of votes obtained by each political party. One vote corresponds to €1.6 and the political parties which do not respect the gender principle have to pay a fine. For 2008, the political parties paid almost €5 million in fines for this reason.

Does "for 2008" mean "in 2008"?

    Re: For 2008

    Hello K.,

I would read it as "For [cases that occurred during] 2008".

("In 2008" would be an ambiguous paraphrase, as it might also suggest that the payment was made in 2008.)

    Best wishes,

    MrP
