Question 'get it down that counts' =?

    Dear Bel,

Maybe it's the getting it down that counts. The best way is to start with a question and then try to explain the reason why I'm asking it. What do you do when all your tricks don't work any more?

    Hi!

Could someone explain 'get it down that counts' means for me? Is it an idiom?

    Thanks!

It's not totally clear, but perhaps the author is suggesting that simply formulating the question, getting it down in writing or at least in clear words in your mind, will help in resolving or finding the answer.
