I would like to know the difference between "1" and "2".

    A: I have a cold
B(1): You should see a doctor.
B(2): You should see the doctor.

... a doctor = any doctor you think is better or affordable, not referring to a specific doctor. The listener has the option.
... the doctor = your family doctor, the doctor in your town, a specific doctor meant here

Note: We generally use "the doctor" because by saying this we normally mean the family doctor or the doctor we are registered with.
    Hope this helps!
