    I need to know what a "groom porter" in a context of card games:
    "the soft voices of the groom porters calling the odds...".
    I have to translate from English to Italian.

    I don't think this has anything to do with card games as such, but is probably describing the manservants in an inn or hotel playing at cards in the spare time.

    From Webster 1913 Dictionary: Groom porter, formerly an officer in the English royal household, who attended to the furnishing of the king's lodgings and had certain privileges.
