    I'm all confused...

    What's the difference between:
    would and will
    could and can
    was and is
    were and are
    shall and will

    And also give some examples of each. Thank you!

    Each pair deserves a separate thread. And all of them have been discussed here. As for is and was, is is present tense and was is past tense.

    "were" is past tense, and "are" is present tense. (both plural)
    They were here yesterday.
    They are here now.


    Now there are three pairs left.
