    Cool singular or plural?

    Should one say

"According to the first and third statement"

    or

"According to the first and third statements"?

    Thanks a lot!

The word and is used to join two words. Two is more than one (singular); thus the plural statements.

Thanks. I know that in theory it should be plural, but
for example in Italian, French and German (all of which
abide to the same general rule) one would use the
singular "statement". To me it sounds like it should be
singular, but maybe I have just been always making a
    mistake. Cheers

Yes, you are mistaken; only "statements" is correct.
