    Hi,
    1. while horse riding is an expensive pastime, more and more people are taking it up.
    2. Although horse riding is an expensive pastime, more and more people are taking it up.
    Please tell me if they have the same meaning.

    Yes.
    I would, however, insert a still into the sentence, thus:

    Although horse riding is an expensive pastime, still more and more people are taking it up.
    While horse riding is an expensive pastime, still more and more people are taking it up.
