"Be" can be used as primary auxiliary verb and main verb.
    I am James. (Main verb)
I am in the room. (Main verb)
I am swimming. (Primary auxiliary verb)
I am punished by my teacher. (Primary auxiliary verb)
When we transform them into past tense, we have:
    I was James.
    I was in the room.
    I was swimming.
I was punished by my teacher.
When the subject of the sentence is plural, we have:
    They are teachers.
    They are in the room.
    They are swimming.
They are puniched by their teacher.
When we transform them into past tense, we have:
    They were teachers.
    They were in the room.
    They were swimming.
They were punished by their teacher.
We can use "Be" after the modal verb and to.
She will be a teacher next month.
She wants to be a teacher.
    For "would", please see;
