    battery jumper service

    Hi, there,

What is the "battery jumper service"? Could someone tell me more about "battery jumper service?

    Thanks for your help.

The place to go for parking permits is the Safety and Security Office on the first floor of the University Services Building. Parking permits are required for all on-campus parking. Special permits are available for students who carpool. You can also get passes for the Fourth Avenue Garage, bus passes. and maps there. The hours are 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday. and 8:00 to 4:00 on Fridays.

Safety and Security also provides special services 24 hours a day. These include escort service to and from your car, criminal incident reporting and investigation, lost and found, and battery jumper service.

When your car won't start, you use 'jumpers' (or jumper cables/jump leads); the cables connect the battery of your car to the battery of another car. In most cases, your car will start after being treated with jumpers. And the people offering such help are referred to as battery jumper service.

When your car battery goes flat there are three things you can do (apart from 'phoning a breakdown service, if you have one ):
    • recharge it using mains power and a charger
    • 'bump'-start it, using several people pushing the car, preferably down-hill, and the lightest assistant engaging a low gear once the car has enough momentum (doesn't work with automatics, and can leave the pushers face-down in the wake of a suddenly-firing car)
    • connect it to a working car's battery using 'jumper leads' (lengths of cable with a crocodile clip at each end)

Your 'battery jumper service' presumably offers the third: when your battery's flat you phone them and they arrive some time later with jumper leads.
