    Which is correct?

    Please let me know which presentation of these two phrases is correct:

    1.) opened fire

    2.) open fired

    It depends on the context.
    1) guns
    2) open-fired is used for ceramics and pottery, burners

    Ah, thank you. The statement was being made to reference guns. I Googled it and found it written both ways, but more frequently written "opened fire". I know that I have lazy grammar, and I think that if I was using the phrase in speaking, I would say "open fired".
