    or

    I had kept the CD under the table

    I have kept the CD under the table. This means that for some time in the past up to now the CD was kept under the table, possibly it is still there.

    or

    I had kept the CD under the table. This means that for some time in the past you kept the CD under the table, now it is probably somewhere else.
