    Exclamation Poor Sentence Structure

    Please tell me if the following sentence example is grammatically incorrect.

    "His hair needs cut." or "Check to see what needs filled."

    Obviously the words "to be" are missing from both, but I have a friend that claims these are correct.

    needs cutting
    what need/s (to) be filled

    Both are incorrect.

    His hair needs to be cut.
    His hair needs cutting.
    He needs to cut his hair.

    Check to see what needs filling.
    Check to see what needs to be filled.

    Check to see what filling is needed.
    Check to see what needs are filled.

    Is your friend from Pittsburgh? Need + past participle is used there:
