    Please help

    Hello Teachers,

Could you please tell me what is the difference between these two sentences? If they both are correct, which one should I say and when?

    1) I gave my friend a book for her birthday.

    2) I gave a book to my friend for her birthday.

    please help.

    I agree with bhaisahab.
Moreover, new information is put towards the end of a sentence:
    1) answers the question What did you give your friend for her birthday?
    2) answers the question Who did you give a book to for their birthday?

Moreover, new information is put towards the end of a sentence:

    Please explain.
    1)
A: What did you give your friend for her birthday?
    B: I gave my friend a book.

    2)
A Who did you give a book to for their birthday?
I gave a book to my friend.

In the above exchanges, A already knows what is marked in blue ("old information"); what is marked in red comes as new information to A.
