    How do we say it?

    Dear teachers,
Is there a popular idiom to express the idea that one is going through a difficult time?
    Thank you all.

There are quite a few: the ones that spring to mind are -

    under the cosh
    under the weather
    in dire straits
    in troubled waters
    in the doldrums
under jury-rig (these five are all nautical; the last refers to any make-do
.................... solution used when the proper equipment is broken)
    behind the 8-ball
    snookered
stymied (these three are all from sports - pool, snooker, and golf respectively)

There must be more. Stay tuned!
