When I write an essay to analyse a poem,
in the body paragraphs : each paragraph is for one stanza.
this is what i do , is it right?
i know that if the poem is a sonnet, it is divided into two stanzas in the case of Petrarchan sonnet ,so i write one paragraph for each
and in the case of Shakespearean sonnet it is divided into 4 quatrains and one couplet , can the quatrain be a stanza?
so if this right i write four body paragraphs
I want to know if the poem is not a sonnet , how can I divide it into stanzas in order that i can write a paragraph for each stanza
If the poet did not break the poem into stanzas, for reference number all the lines first to last, and then break it up into whatever units you think are necessary. It may be a good idea to keep a sentence in one unit, if there's enough punctuation to do that, and your logic and understanding of the poem agree.
