    Thwarted theft...

    Thwarted mean :To oppose and defeat the efforts, plans, or ambitions of someone or something.

    So a Thwarted ttheft is a theft (when something is taken from you or a place without paying or permission) that was prevented. Basically a prevented theft.

    I don't believe that you could use ambush as an adjective for theft but you could say that the theft was an ambush. That you could say. :)
