    Arguably the only serious one

What is the meaning of "arguably the only seriuos one" in the following sentence?
For him and for the rest of us, the most serious gift - arguably the only serious one - is our knowledge, abilities, and passions.

This phrase interupts the sentence (hence the dashes to off set the words.

It is a side commment on the "serious gift."

It means that one could argue that it was the only serious gift.

Re: Arguably the only serious one

    Susiedqq,
Thank you for the explanation. I have a further questions.
1 Does the "only serious one" mean all of the "our knowledge, abilities, and passions" or only mean one of them?
2 Why the author said this is "arguably"?

Re: Arguably the only serious one

    The MAIN idea is:

The most serious gift is our knowledge, abilities, and passions.
(correct use should be "most serious gifts are our knowledge, abilities and passions")

"arguably" is used to point out that someone might argue or object to these things as being serious (important).
