Exclamation What does "judgements" in here mean?

What does "judgements" in here mean?

What judgments does Smith make about the people and community which appear in the profile? How did you respond to these judgments? Do you agree or disagree with them?

btw. this is a sports illustrated article "Someone to Lean on" about "Radio"

Re: What does "judgements" in here mean?

Smith probably quotes lots of facts, but if you read carefully, he almost certainly makes statements which are really his opinion or his impression of the people he describes and their community. Judgements are exactly these subjective impressions. Sometimes, however, the judgement is never stated directly, but reflects in the tone of the writer: is he respectful? condescending? disparaging? does he approve of what these people do or think and what their community is all about? And: does he seem selective in the facts he describes, based on what else you may know about these people and their community? This last question does not reflect his judgement directly, but affects the answer to the previous questions.
