    Re: question

The schoolbook answer is deserve. There are two of them. But...

Are you thinking of the woman and baby as an inseparable unit (deserves) or as a pair of individual human beings (deserve)? In other words, do they deserve to experience it together (deserves) or individually (deserve)? I think I see why you hesitate. I'd still recommend deserve, because not everyone might see the difference.

    Re: question

I am not a teacher but aspiring to become and teach English one day:)

Yeah, a very contestable question for either of the choices.

I am currently preparing for GMAT. If this kind of situation arises in GMAT, I would have gone for 'deserves'. I know it is very contestable but even am confused.. :o

    Re: question

think the problem arises at notional agreement

as every is a singular pronoun.... it makes them two individual units so deserve should be used.... correct me if i am wrong......

    Re: question

Yes, I take back my opinion that was written. What i mean't to bat for is deserve not deserves.. I agree with you all:)
