    used to

Used to caring for others, they are more likely to move toward such leadership professions as teaching and politics.

Why do we "ing" form after "used to"?
We say I used to live in London.
    Thanks

'Used to caring' = having the habit to care.

"Used to caring for others" is an adjectival phrase that describes "they". They are accustomed to caring for others.
