    reasonable love?

What do you call it when somebody loves sb with a dose of caution?
    reasonable love? responsible love?

I know there is such an expression but I can't remember :(

    Re: reasonable love?

Feelings are as they are, but the way of expressing them is a whole another subject.
The word you are looking for is probably 'reserved'.

    Re: reasonable love?

Well, you could put it like that, meaning that the love you are showing does not present itself in its full. There's always a 'reserve'.
I'd like to have more context to work with, though - that way I don't have to think of examples of my own, on which I am, for the sake of argument, lousy at.

    Re: reasonable love?

    Hi,
But it still sounds like an oxymoron to me .
    Cheers

    Re: reasonable love?

Ok I have stumbled upon it today what I meant was tough love, not so much cautious as responsible. Thanks for all your responses!

That's the word that sprang to mind for me. Some would say it's an oxymoron; that would explain why its opposite "unconditional love" is more widely used.

"Tough love" is different - not so much 'love with a dose of caution' as 'love with a dose of cod-liver oil' (unpleasant-tasting cure-all, routinely administered to children in the first half of the 20th c. )
