    Present perfect

According to a book I'm reading

It says The Chinese invented paper. (NOT The Chinese have invented paper)

Why can't we use present perfect in this case?

Hasn't it happened in some time in the past?

    Thanks

That the Chinese invented paper is a fact, well known for a long time. If we say, 'The Chinese have invented paper.' it has the effect of an announcement; of news of something that has recently occurred.

    Re: Present perfect

I've just noticed, why this site ENGLISH PAGE - Present Perfect says

    TOPIC 3 Accomplishments

We often use the Present Perfect to list the accomplishments of individuals and humanity. You cannot mention a specific time.
    Examples:

    • Man has walked on the Moon.
    • Our son has learned how to read.
    • Doctors have cured many deadly diseases.
    • Scientists have split the atom.

These all are also fact, aren't they? and it also happened long time ago. Why do they use present perfect here?

One more question, is it correct to use do there or should I use did instead?
