    Adding ING

Is there any grammar rule that tells you when you have to double the last consonant of a verb when you're adding "ING"?

Terminal consonant are most often doubled after a vowel, but only when the stress is on that syllable and the vowel sound is short. Exceptions do exist. There are also consonants that never double.
