    other than different from

    Hi teachers!

    1 This report is quite different from what we expected.

    2 This report is quite other than what we expected.

    My dictionary says "other than" can be used like #2. However, "diffrenet from in #1 is much more familiar to me. Do you really use "other than" to mean "diffrent from" like #2?

    As an American, I would never say or write #2.

    One would say either This report is quite different from what we expected OR This report is not what we expected.

    This report is other than what we expected is probably acceptable if you remove "quite." But I'd still go for #1...
