    创to subside创

Campbell said calls to the debt-counselling agency were up 35 per cent in January, compared to last year, and show no signs of subsiding as economic conditions worsen.

    Hi,
Is this verb very formal, please? How do people speak in an informal conversation? Can I say "becoming smaller"?
    Thanks.

Informally you can say so, but formally better economic terms/words are: Let up, ease up and decline
