    filling in for people

    I would like to have some help regarding the sentence below. I understand the first part of the sentnece but can't reveal the meaning of the second. I will appreciate any help you can provide.
    "Iím up to my eyes in work, but my job is just filling in for people in the office."

    filling in for people: acting as a substitute for someone when they are unable to do their job (such as when they are on holiday, off sick, on maternity leave).
