    Correct me please

I went to the Herb Garden. There were many trees and flowers there. Some of them were wholesome but some were not.

Should it use present tense instead?

    Thanks

    Re: Correct me please

according to my teacher, when you are narrating something, and you've started it in a past tense, you must continue the tense being used.

    Re: Correct me please

Assuming that the garden still has trees and flowers, you should use present tense in the second sentence.
I went to the Herb Garden. The Garden has many trees and flowers. Some of them are wholesome and some are not.

A trickier way to resolve it
I went to the Herb Garden and saw many trees and flowers. Some of them were wholesome and some were not.

what if I don't if the garden still has trees and flowers. What tense should I use? Present or Past?
