    Past perfect

As we had had a long walk through one of the markets of Old Delhi, we stopped at a square to have a rest. After a time, we noticed a snake-charmer with two large baskets, so we went to have a look at him ...

Why doesn't "noticed" use past perfect instead of simple past? Hadn't it happened before "so we went"?

    Thank you very much

All the information is presented as it actually happened, so there's no need to use the past perfect; it's called sequence of events.
