    Re: meaning

An industry is a type of commercial enterprise. Banks belong to the banking industry. Gas stations, oil well drillers, and electricity suppliers belong to the energy industry. Growers and refiners of sugar cane belong to the sugar processing industry.

To be quick to see an opening means that you see openings quickly. Nobel was looking all the time for ways to use his inventions in different types of business (industrial openings), and because he was looking, he quickly found those openings.

An industrialist is someone who is important in big business. They may own or manage a company. To be forward-looking means to always think intelligently about the future and to make plans for the future. So a forward-looking industrialist is someone who thinks a lot about where his business is going.

A stone memorial may be the stone that marks a grave, or it may be a statue or tower that someone puts up in a public place to remind people of a dead person. The text says Nobel was not interested in remembering and honoring dead people that way. He was only interested in what he could do for living people.
