Re: help me explain this gramar structure

In the structure [have a problem Ving] , the -ing form is a gerund governed by an obligatorily ellipted preposition, the gerund phrase 'taking tests' functioning therefore as an adjectival postmodifier to NP 'a problem'.

    I am not a teacher

We can analyse this sentence as following:

Main Clause - "Ann, a student at X University, first had a problem
    taking tests "
Subordinate Clause - "when she began college"

"When she began college" is Adverb clause of time which modifies the the verb "taking" in clasue number one.

'taking' is not a verb, but a gerund (a verbal noun).

Re: help me explain this gramar structure

Thank you all very much. And by the way, please tell me if we have the structure: make noun + noun. Ex: I make writing my profession.

    Tks again.

In your sentence, not that it is gerund(verbal noun) + (pronoun/article) +noun
