    a audio clip of a CNN's program

I cannot figure out some words while listening to a audio clip of a news program from CNN. Could someone please be kind enough to help me by filling out a blank in the last paragraph of this post which I wrote down after listening to the above-mentioned audio clip?

    Thanks in advance.

Below is the URL of the related audio clip in MP3 format:

The sad story there are no survivors in that deadly upstate New York plane crash last night. The flight data recorders as well as the cockpit voice recorders have been retrieved from the plane crash site that happened just a short time ago. Continental Flight 3407 took off from Newark, New Jersey, headed north to Buffalo. The flight proceeded without incident until later almost (00:32)_________ close to land, it disappeared going off the radar. That plane crash shattering the calm of Clarence Center, New York just outside of Buffalo. Residents there describe the terrible scene.

Sounds like she got her tongue twisted. I think she said "when they were getting close to land"

    sounds like a combination of:

when they were getting ready to land

when they were close to landing

Yes, she actually said: "...when they were getting close to land"
but she meant to say, "when they were getting close to landing" or 'when the plane was getting close to landing' - not that they had been over the sea and getting close to land.
