    Confusing pronunciation

    Hello
I am quite confused about how to pronounce the prefix "multi", for example in words like multinational, multicultural etc. In my dictionaries, there is only one possible way to pronounce this prefix and it is "multi". However, I have heard some Americans pronounce it like "multai". Can you please tell me whether it is correct and whether it is possible to pronounce it like that at all?
Thank you very much in advance! Bye

    Re: Confusing pronunciation

It varies by region, person... Even by specific word. It's not really a BrE/AmE difference.
    Both are in use.

Always trust the dictionary. Few English-speakers speak totally standard English. As Henry Higgins said, Americans haven't done it for years!

Some Americans also say Eye-talian. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Save the eye for your iPod, where it belongs. (I'm an American, so Eye should know!)
