    What is meaning of 'proprietorial' in this sentence?

    The word is poorly chosen, since the sentiment is self-referential.
    How can one have a sense of 'ownership' about oneself?
    A more correct use would be:
    "The teacher hovered over her pupils with a proprietorial manner, rather like a massive mother hen."
