    Is it correct for a news broadcaster to state "man falls from bridge" instead of "the man fell from the bridge"?

    Roughly speaking, in headlines, simple tenses are often used instead of progressive or perfect forms. The simple present is used for both present and past events.

    FORMER PM PASSES AWAY (= Former PM has passed away.)
    BLIND GIRL CLIMBS EVEREST (= Blind girl has climbed Everest.)

    For the above-mentioned sentences, I think

    "man falls from bridge" written
    "the man fell from the bridge" spoken
