    Do u know the answer?

    I'm confusing between the 2 structures of "Wish" sentences. "i wish I did" and "I wish somebody would" what is the difference? In grammar books these structures aren't claearly distinguished. cheers!

    "I wish I did" is used to express dislike of a present situation.
    "I wish somebody would" is used to express strong annoyance in relation to a present situation (but referring to something that is outside your control, so a sentence starting I wish I would... is not correct).

    Examples:

    I wish it was Martha who is sitting right in front of me right now.

    I wish you would stop talking!
