    get off

A singer wrote a song and said there is some vanity in there because he put two of his own aphorisms as if they were the wisdom of the world, and then says: It's a terrible cheat as a writer but I'd love to get one of them off.

I understand he's saying that these two aphorisms sound as if he cheated someone, probably he shouldn't have written them, but then he says: I'd love to get one of them off. - what does it mean?
