    at the time when

    Dear teacher,

    Is the following sentence right:

    I came there right at the time when he came.

    or we should use:
    I came there right at the time he came.

    Hi phoenixqn81,

    Either one of the above is OK. But what you're really getting at is your arrival being coincident (i.e., happening at the same time) as someone else's (arrival).

    Why not try:

    I arrived (there) just when s/he did.

    You don't need "when" because "when" means "at the time". So using them together is redundant.
