    use of take away

    if I have a list of countries, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico. but I need to remove Puerto Rico, is it correct if I say. " I will take Puerto Rico away" ?

    You'd probably say something more like:

    "Let's take Puerto Rico off the list."
    "I'm taking Puerto Rico off the list."
    "Let's delete Puerto Rico from the list."
    "I'm removing Puerto Rico from the list."

    And you should take Puerto Rico off the list. It's not a country!
