    modals in reported speech

    Hi, I ' d like to know which sentence in reported speech is ok. thanks


    "you shouldn't phone her because she might be busy now"

    1) He told me that I shouldn't have phoned her because she might have been busy at that moment.

    2) He told me that I shouldn't phone her because she might be busy at that moment.

    The second one. (The first one says you did phone her, but it was wrong to do so.)
