    Which One Is Correct?

    Choose the best option:

1.In that very room, in the _____of summer, i was introduced to the bright theater of an inner life.

    A. dead B. death
    -------------
Which one is correct? I think it's A. dead. isn't it?

I'm very confused cuz I'v only heard of "in the dead of winter" (or night), never heard of "in the dead of summer"

    What sense does "dead" make?

No sense. It is usually "the height of summer".

Yes - or better still - "neither".

    Re: Which One Is Correct?

    Where is this sentence from?

It sounds to me as if the author has specifically coined 'in the dead of summer' to reflect that for her, with the activities of school not there to fill up her days (during the summer vacation), or some other reason why she is feeling isolated with little going on around her - no 'outer' life going on around her - she found an 'inner' life, as lively and entertaining as vibrant theatre, to compensate and substitute.
