    good, with, stem

    Dear teachers,

    I have three questions to ask:

    No.1
    Many fami8lite have a pet animal. It could be a dog or a cat or a goldfish. Sone lonely old people love their cat or dog as much as a _____ friend.
    a. human b. good
    The key is 'a'. Could you please explain why? And why 'b' isn't correct?

    No.2
    You do not have to be rich to race your own pigeons, but it is different with horses.
    Could you please explain if the word "with" means 'in the case of'?

    No. 3
    Sometimes their difficulty _____ from the psychological idea that they are not good at math.

    You do not have to be rich to race your own pigeons, but it is different with horses.
    Could you please explain if the word "with" means 'in the case of'? Yes - the cost of keeping, training and racing a horse is around 30,000 per year, not counting any costs for medical or blacksmith treatment. Pigeons don't yet cost that much.

    For many I think that would be the case. To me, using good and friend to refer to a pet is acceptable. They can be the best friends to have since they do not expect emotional contact and give of themselves without strings. Also, if you are low, they can be comfortingly sympathetic - nothing like a lurcher making "Diana" eyes at you to make you realise just how silly you are being.
