    hi dear experts, Could you please paraphrase the underlined part in the following:

    "Then I learned something new about my sweet Saudi man: He had a temper.

    "I took the egg you gave me, crushed it to dust, and left it in an ashtray," he said. So much for holding back.

    It's a tongue-in-cheek way of saying he didn't hold back his temper.

    "So much for..." is an idiom implying that an action was considered and rejected. Someone might have suggested he should hold back, or he might have said he was going to hold back, but in the end, he didn't.
