    Cool get along

    hi,

in the following passage: "my father and I get along well"

Isn't it a pleonasm? get along + well.... Isn't the writer repeating himself?

    Re: get along

Simply writing 'get along" would be enough to know that their relationship is positive. Yet to my mind + 'well' isn't a pleonasm. 'well' stresses the fact that their relationship is harmonious. It qualifies "get along".
We always get along but that day we got along very well.

    We get along sometimes.

    We get along badly.

    We don't ever get along.

"We get on badly" = "We don't get on very well".

    Re: get along

"getting along" is describing the status of the relationship.

We get along OK (our relationship is so-so)

We get along famously (our relationship is wonderful)

We don't get along well (our relationship is not good)
