Have you heard of the technique " chimmping" used for learning spelling words in primary school. How dose this work.?
I am not a teacher, I have a B.A. in Communications and help teach an ESL class
CHIMP is a mnemonic device for learning spelling:
CH = Chunk = break the words into chunks of sounds (syllables)
I = Investigate = explore the meaning of the word and how it (or its parts) might relate to other words
M = Memory screen = close your eyes and imagine the "chunks" on a screen and spell the word forward and backward
P = Practice = write the word at least three times speaking the "chunks" out loud as they are written (synchronizing voice with hand movements)
