    Dear Cat's Eyes:

Could you add just a bit more context? I can think of several interpretations of your phrase.

    Thanks,

    Petra

    Re: improve my position

    For example:

Bank X is the second most influential institution, it has improved its position, as last year it was the 4th in the ranking.

In this context, you can use the words "rise", "move up", "climb", or "shoot up", which implies that the improvement was quick and sudden. Consider the style of your text.

    it has:
risen (in the rankings; above its competitors)
climbed (in the rankings; above its competitors)
    outperformed its competitors
    made great strides
    shown rapid progress
    outpaced the competition
