    working for little money

seeking to express a situation when working for little money (salary).

Can I say: "I get only 50$ a week. I work there for nuts"? Does this phrase make sense? or should I say: "for a song"

Are there any other idiomatic expressions used in such a case?

    thank you

If a purchase you made was a real bargain, then you "got/bought it for a song'.

    You work for peanuts
    or
I get a pittance working here.
    or
I work for a pittance in this job.

Lot's more to come, from others!

Can I say: "I get only $50 a week. I work there for peanuts"? Does this phrase make sense? Yes. In a quote, you'll generally want to spell out "fifty dollars."

Or should I say: "for a song"?

That has a more positive connotation, which is probably not what you're looking for: "Why pay him so much, when you can hire me for a song?"

    Here are a few Americanisms:

    chicken feed
    slave wages
    dog shit
    zip
    diddly-squat
    doodly-squat
    zip point doodly-squat
    zilch

    Thank you.

Well, I am sorry for the stylistic and typographical errors. I tried to write the query very quickly.

BTW: "Why pay him so much when you can hire me for a song?"

No problem - I just can't help myself. That's why this forum is so much fun!
