    buys meat at/from the market

My mother buys meat at/from the market.

I think it should be 'at', but don't know me why.

    Thanks.

At is more common. It signifies a location. From would imply from a certain person, not a place.

Re: buys meat at/from the market

    Hi Tan Elaine,
"At" is probably a better choice for market.

Remember that simple present is used for repeated actions, so it sounds like it answers the question "Where does your mother usually buy meat?"

My mother buys meat at the market as part of her regular shopping.

If it asked "Who does your mother usually buy meat from?" then you could use from: My mother buys meat from the butcher down the street.

'At' implies location when you are buying smth.
'From' implies the company that sells you the product.

My mother buys meat at the market.
My mother buys meat from 'Smith & Co'.

I found this thread in the file of 'Unanswered threads' where it had probably been put by mistake. So when I was posting my answer I didn't know that the problem had already been solved.
