    remote chance

"There is a remote chance that you can catch him before he leaves."

I have two questions about this sentence.
    1. Does it mean 'there is a slight chance that...?' or mean 'there is almost no chance that...'?
    2. Does 'catch him' here mean 'see him' or could it be 'arrest him'?

    Thanks!

I have two questions about this sentence.
    1. Does it mean 'there is a slight chance that...?' or mean 'there is almost no chance that...'? Either, depending on context. This is a 'glass half full'/'glass half empty' question. An optimist would mean the first, a pessimist would mean the second.
    2. Does 'catch him' here mean 'see him' or could it be 'arrest him'?Either, depending on context. A secretary whose boss has just left the office (so he might still be in the building) would mean the first, a co-worker talking to the police about a fugitive would mean the second.

    Thanks!
More generally, whenever there's ambiguity in a word, you need context (not just the surrounding words, but the surrounding situation).
