    tense

    Dear teachers.
I am confused about the following choice:

An increasing number of students, year by year, across China______hard to realize their dream of studying abroad.
    A. try B. have tried C. will try D. are trying

I think D is the best one. But can we choose A or B.
If we say A, we tell something true without considering our feelings.
B, tell the listener the situation is never broken since it happened and that the number gets greater all the way.
    Thank you a lot.

    Re: tense

B would certainly be possible. A would be rather unnatural, although one would be loath to call it ungrammatical. The question is very badly designed!

    (not a teacher)
A,C and D are acceptable. And, B must be "have been trying" because it is happening 'year by year'.
